Berlioz: Le corsaire
Debussy: Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune
Bizet: Suite from Carmen
French sophistication, Russian fireworks, and a dash of Mozart’s special gracefulness make up this superbly entertaining programme. The French selections exhibit both fire (Berlioz) and sensuousness (Debussy), and soloist Pavel Kolesnikov, Prize Laureate of the 2012 Honens Piano Festival and Competition, strikes sparks from Rachmaninoff’s glittering, witty variations on a theme by Paganini.
